Padel rules / Rule 13

Rule 13Point lost

Every way to lose a point, letter by letter.

Points a to rPlain-English notes marked In practice
  1. a
The player, the racket or anything worn touches the net, the posts, the cable or the opponents' court while the ball is in play.
Touching the net after the ball is dead is fine.
  2. b
Exception: where out-of-court play is allowed, the dividing post between the doors is neutral above 0.92 m and may be touched by any player.
  3. c
The ball bounces twice on the player's side before it is returned.
  4. d
Out-of-court play is not allowed and the ball, after bouncing, leaves the court over a wall or through a door.
On most club courts this is simply a lost point.
  5. e
Out-of-court play is allowed: a ball that leaves over the end wall after a correct bounce is still good; a ball that leaves over the side or through the door is lost on its second bounce or when it touches something outside the court.
  6. f
The player hits the ball before it has crossed the net.
    No reaching over.
  7. g
A return off the player's own walls hits the opponents' walls or fence without bouncing on their floor.
  8. h
A return touches the net or posts and then goes directly into the opponents' wall or fence.
  9. i
    A double hit.
See Rule 14 (h) for the exception.
  10. j
After hitting the ball, the player, the partner or their clothing touches it.
  11. k
After the opponents' shot, the ball touches the player or anything other than the racket.
It does not matter that the ball was going out. Step aside.
  12. l
The ball, after being hit, touches the player's own fence, own floor or anything outside the court on the player's side.
Own glass is allowed. Own fence is not.
  13. m
The racket is thrown at the ball.
  14. n
A player jumps over the net during the point.
  15. o
Both partners hit the ball, together or one after the other. Rackets touching each other is not a double hit.
  16. p
The player hitting the ball has any part of the body outside the court, unless out-of-court play is allowed.
  17. q
    Two consecutive serve faults.
  18. r
The player drops the racket or the wrist strap breaks. The pair loses the point immediately.
    New in 2026.
